Lane 8 Announces Fifth Studio Album, ‘Childish’
Lane 8 has announced his fifth studio album, Childish.
The fan-favorite deep house artist—real name Daniel Goldstein—revealed on social media today that the 10-track project, which he says draws inspiration from his experience as a father, will arrive on his own This Never Happened label next Friday, September 25.
Discussing the inspiration he’s gleaned from watching the uninhibited creativity of his two children, Goldstein wrote on Instagram, “as parents we’ve always tried to provide the materials and space for them to create, but then to step back and let them be themselves and focus without interfering. seeing the joy and the confidence that creating in their own way brings them has been one of the most eye-opening parts of parenthood for me.”
Goldstein added that this realization helped him recall the “vivid feelings of infinite possibility” he had when he first discovered electronic music production at 12 years old—and how his creative process has changed since.
“When you make a living off your art, people need to like what you make for the whole thing to work,” he continued. “a pressure to please others starts to creep into the creative process, whether you want it to or not. It was only by watching our kids create that i fully appreciated how much my own process had changed. it hurt to admit it at first, but what followed was a new sense of liberation and motivation, because I knew it didn’t have to be that way.”
Underscoring the new album’s theme is its cover art, which features a homemade creation by Goldstein’s 7-year-old daughter, Heidi.
Childish will mark Goldstein’s first full-length album since 2022’s Reviver, which featured hit tracks such as “Survive” with Channy Leaneagh and “What Have You Done To Me?” with Arctic Lake. It follows Lane 8’s collaborative single with Kasablanca, “Remission,” as the artist’s second original release of 2024.
